When I was a boy,
I was on my own;
wondering who I was
and what life would be like when I’m grown.
I’d lie on my back in the sun,
win all the races I hadn’t even run,
weave fantasies and dream of the man I would become
while searching out faces in the clouds…
I’m a man now,
all grown up.
I’ve lived my life;
I am what I am and that’ll have to be good enough.
I make music with my band
sing and play wherever we can
I can make everything stop. – – – – – – – – – – – – by just holding up my hand…
But I’m still seeing faces in the clouds.
I see the tears of mothers a weeping,
their heads usually bowed.
Fathers typically sleeping,
or look like they’re laughing out loud.
Friends and enemies standing off,
then melt back into a crowd
And the smiling faces of angels and babies
they shine from behind the clouds.
I have power now
and influence in high places.
People come to me
they want to shake my hand and want me to remember their faces.
But I won’t suffer fools,
it doesn’t matter if you think of me as cruel
in my ivory tower, the drinks are long and cool…
Yet I’m still looking at those faces in the clouds.
i haven’t yet settled on a chorus!! Up to now I’ve just sang “Faces in the clouds” four times each with a slightly different melody. Thinking key change would work for it too. The format would be ‘verse/chorus throughout.
