PRETTY PLEASE and Roger Khart’s Lament (Song Lyric)

PRETTY PLEASE.

See the stars on their filaments,

glitter thru the leaves.

Ear to the ground

you’ll hear the susurration of the trees

close your pretty eyes my child, rest upon your knees

and pray that there’s salvation

from the light that never leaves you.

Kiss the pregnant rosebud,

feel the petals burst.

Glory as the rain sucks

a flower from the dirt.

Sing your pretty song my love, melt into the breeze

and hope that there’s deliverance

from the soft, sweet rot beneath it all.

Pretty lady; learning to cope

pretty life; using powdered hope

pretty playmates; faithless grins

pretty awful; pretty sins.

Drink the milk and honey

celebrate in style

the harvest and the sunset

the beauty and the smile.

Let your pretty heart fly,

like fledglings from the trees

Make a wish for your redemption

from what spoils as it feeds itself.

Maybe I can save you;

close your pretty eyes,

sing that pretty song of yours

as your pretty heart flies.

Maybe I can save you,

just ask me pretty please;

I’m pretty sure that pretty soon

You will feel so, so pretty;

exactly as you please.

.

ROGER KHART’s LAMENT

I swear I’m needing
at least four women
to feed my appetite.
That’s one for the morning,
one for the evening,
and two to keep me up all night.
I know I’m needin
at least four women
to stir my desolate blood
I need four women
at least four women
To prove I can be loved.

I swear I’m needing
at least four women
to put my mind at ease
One for the heartburn
one for the bellyache
and two to keep me up off my knees
I swear I’m needing
at least four women
to feed my greed for love
that’s one for the morning
one for the evening
two more will be just enough.

That’s one to love – one to watch and pray
two to sing for me over my grave,
I need those women
at least four women
to carry my soul away.

I always want more than I’ve got
I have a little bit but I want the lot.
I need my momma to be always around
I need my sister, keep my feet on the ground
And my daughter I need – to love and admire
Now I need a woman set my mojo on fire

That’s one to love – one to watch and pray
Two to sing for me over my grave
I need those women
at least four women
to carry my soul away.
