Heaven’s Door is Red

ccfc
They tried to bury my heart
in Ninian Park
the headstone said I was done.
But the spirit flew high
into the blue-bird sky
across the road to our new stadium.

Then the sky so blue
changed its hue
and things got messed in my head.
But from November to May
our team led the way –
Heaven’s door stood ajar, painted red.

They tried to bury my heart
but they left a little spark
which glittered with passion and fire.
Yes, we took Vincent’s dollar
well – he did the Ayatollah
and took us up one step higher…

…to the Premier dons
where the City belongs,
at last we can put some things right.
First we’ll stick it to the Jacks
then the Scousers and the Mancs,
cause you can’t stop a Bluebird in flight.

If every year it seems
the gateway to your dreams
slams shut and causes you pain;
if then a man with some paint
changed the colour of the gate,
won’t the dream beyond stay the same?

I’ve wanted a heaven
like they had in ’27
when the Cup came to Wales instead.
Now I can stride through
and tho my heart is still blue
for my dream; I’ll take it in red.
