In Wales, where mountains rise to the mist
And where sea meets shore with a gentle kiss,
There’s a beauty deeper than the level of skin
A people-hood of “ddu ar gwyn”.
From coal scarred valleys to bustling cities,
People of all races, cultures and identities,
Come together in harmonious blend,
Welcoming each other as neighbours and friends.
The Welsh spirit is strong and known
Embracing all who make this land their own
Here, to this nation of the mighty dragon
Came my father, a bold Nigerian.
Black, white, African, and more,
Each bring flavours to these shores,
Adding richness to the cultural tapestry,
And making Wales
the place for me to be born and live and love and fight and rugby and sing.
Put simply the place to ‘do my thing’.
Brownness of skin, an obvious difference
Yet true friends never consider that a useful reference.
So I’m here to celebrate diversity,
Encourage you to embrace it with open hearts and unity,
The folk of Wales, are unique, ‘one offs,’ innit?
Despite a rainbow of colours, a market of cultures,
A bazaar of arts and a circus of characters
Wales has proved itself; although not ‘the land of my father’ it is a land of song
and is where my soul belongs.
