In a grave for the living, rationing my breath I guard comrades fighting within themselves to stay in the tiny sliver of death we call sleep. In wartime, sleeping is close to, yet as far from living as it’s possible to be. April’s sun lazes over the horizon, it’s anaemic light revealing life midst the […]

Non-academic, unliterary, less than original maybe… but – created by me.
The Mrs. is on my Back
I piggy-back my Mrs; she feels almost weightless, both our kids are laughing uncontrollably riding on my feet. Their arms enfold my calves, and their giggling grins carve smiles on our faces too. Ahead, along the path, the gnarled, spirit hands of ancestors reach without grasping. I trudge contentedly.
One Moment
He emerged, undisturbed by the melody of babble and jabber, into silence. Mother’s moist, sympathetic eyes, harmonise with her caring crescent. Images, engendered from this gentle, somehow sinister, quiescence burden his innocent perceptions with knowing ignorance. White coats flutter; busying noiselessly. Machines, their dials awhirr with sharp jumping traces, vibrate rhythms to multitudes of peering faces. […]
I Heard You Chatting
I heard you chatting to Mercy and Goodness, saw you courting Favour too. I was told you were playing with Success, just after you’d kissed Breakthrough. It seemed you were running with Blessings, Elegance, Bravado, Romance, The world at your feet, not regretting, it was you taught St. Vitus to dance. Things have changed since […]
This be my Version
A parody of the much admired poet Phillip Larkin’s poem “This be the Verse”. As Phil Larkin once insisted They fucked me up my dad and mum. They didn’t mean to but they did fill me with faults, then added some. He said they’d been fucked up themselves through yawning generation gap. We must leap […]
As If.
Posthumous words, yet the man is still alive, Not long for this world but still waits for dawn to arrive. His life, interred as is, his hope. Now he sees his world through a kaleidoscope. Yet he lives, as if. He lives – as if. Scarlet clouds drift through unfamiliar skies. His blood, his sweat, […]
Shatter the Sheen.
‘Tis a troublesome thing, perfecting thoughts. Ideas shifting shape with diabolic force wafting into forms grey and blurred, whilst on a knife-edged cross teeter swearing words. Sharpened tongues sculpt what’s heard. Do you hear those mouths full of tomorrows? Can you swim in the twisted phrases that reflect your world? Have you antidotes for lies […]
Outsider; they don’t want me here
I can hear the whistle screeching as the train gets nearer up the track. Coming to take me away from here, this is another place I’m never coming back. Every time I nearly settle down I tell myself I’ve had enough of this town… Coz they don’t want me here I’m an outsider. They’re full of […]
I Knelt to Say my Prayers Last Night.
I knelt to say my prayers last night my mind in disarray, so I asked the Lord for a guiding light to help me on my way. I said “Father, you created us – made us look like this so why are women so beautiful that I simply can’t resist? To my surprise an answer […]
Ancient Grecians had no TV.
The Ancient Grecians had no TV so at what did they gaze through the night? They looked up at the moon, and at stars all unknown… in thrall to celestial delight. Archimedes developed his theories setting brand new scientific agendas. We’ve moved some degrees since 240 BC and switched channels from the sky to Eastenders!
