I Knelt to Say my Prayers Last Night.

I knelt to say my prayers last night
my mind in disarray,
so I asked the Lord for a guiding light
to help me on my way.
I said “Father, you created us – made us look like this
so why are women so beautiful that I simply can’t resist?
To my surprise an answer came, whispered clear and crisp,
“She’s made that way my son,” he said,
“So Man will love her charms.
So he’ll work for her, look after her
and hold her in his arms.”
Shocked as I was, I had to reply,
“Yes Lord, I see what you’ve done,
but why then did you also make her
so unremittingly dumb?
That must be a decision you regret;
is it one you can undo?”
He answered with a wry smile, I suspect,
“I did that so she’d love you.”
